Written by: Ronnie Malley and Reginald Edmund

Summary: American Griot is an original play co-commissioned by Silk Road Rising and Moraine Valley Community College exploring the often overlooked history of early African Muslims forced into American slavery and the influence they had on what would become the American music genre known as the blues. The play was part of Mosaics: Muslim Voices in America programming at Moraine Valley Community College.

This production of American Griot was selected by the Kennedy Center to be performed at the Region 3 American College Theatre Festival in Saginaw, Wisconsin in January 2020. The play was ultimately selected for the 2020 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Award for outstanding student achievement.
